Thomas Moran was the most influential painter of the American West and one of the premier watercolorists in the history of American art. His panoramic landscapes of our majestic Western wilderness introduced the unique grandeur of that little-known frontier to the public and raised the environmental consciousness of his generation. Moran's Western paintings were patriotic icons of "America the Beautiful" and helped to inspire the creation of Yellowstone National Park and the National Park System.
